Abnormality IPA: Abnormal Beer Co x WLBC Collab

Abnormal Beer Co. started in 2015 in Rancho Bernardo. Spun out from a winery and restaurant, we produce a wide range of one off beers as well as a selection of our year round brews.

Who are you?

Hi, I’m Paul Cesena, the Lead Brewer from Abnormal Beer Co. Years ago, I worked at White Labs as a shipping assistant, around that time I was an avid homebrewer and was looking into getting my foot in the door into the industry.

After over a year, an Assistant brewer position opened up and was given the chance to start my journey into the brewing world.  Working for a yeast company absolutely opened my eyes into taking every ingredient seriously.  I learned yeast plays a central role in the outcome of any beer style, but also on how you treat the yeast.

What Yeast Strains Did You Choose?

Abnormality IPA

I choose this strain because it is a biotransformation non GMO strain and it can create a totally different beer compared to the other clean yeast strain selection.

I personally like for the  consumer to get two totally different beer samples to enjoy at a sitting for a brew selection.

I chose this strain as a homage to San Diego and all the San Diego Employees,

It’s super clean and a punchier bitterness than WLP001 California Ale Yeast.

Tell us a bit about the beer? What Flavors/Aromas Can I Expect From This Beer?

Talking to WLBC, We felt like we could throw something really rad together for the start of the new year. We talked about doing a Double IPA and then decided instead to make a nice West Coast IPA above 7% to express the hop selection chosen and allow people to have more than 1 pint.
