Brewing a SMaTH IPA

Ever want to brew a SMaSH IPA or our updated version, a SMaTH IPA. SMaTH stands for single malt and two different varieties of hops! Although we slightly tweak this brew for the better on every iteration, the main focus is for us to highlight different hops and how they interact and play with our yeast strains.

Or Did Someone say sMATH & SCIENCE?

At White Labs Brewing Co, We research how our strains behave during fermentation while providing recipes to brew with! Check David Heath’s homebrew version of this beer and check out our White Labs Brewing Co version the recipe was based on below. We openly share our beer data sheets that analyze certain metrics around the beer to help learn more about our yeast and optimize brewing processes.

Brewed with

ABV: 5.6%

Tasting Notes:
Tangerine | Creamsicle | Resin

Whether you choose our dry or liquid yeast, our favorite hazy strain performs exceptionally well for a great tasting brew!

Why Add Brewzyme-D?

By adding Brewzyme-D at yeast pitch and the start of fermentation, allows us to quicken fermentation timelines meaning more beer sooner for you!

Brewzyme-D attacks alpha acetolactate, a precusor to the off-flavor known as Diacetyl. Present at a very low flavor threshold (50-150 ppb),  diacetyl contributes a buttery flavor and slick, coating mouthfeel to the beer.

Dosage:

Pro (1L, 10L): 15-20mL/hL(0.84 BBL)
HB (10mL): 10mL/ 20L(5Gal)

Using Brewzyme-D, made all SMaTH IPAs below detectable diacetyl threshold so the delicious flavors of Tangerine and Creamsicle were able to shine through!
